Pats Pulpit Podcast Episode 045: What can we make about all of the Patriots injuries?

The Patriots are starting the year off on the wrong foot with injuries. Who will take advantage of their opportunities?

The New England Patriots have suffered a gross stretch of injuries, but none of them are definitely season threatening.

Quarterback Tom Brady cut his thumb, right guard Shaq Mason broke his hand, running back Dion Lewis needs knee surgery, and right tackle Sebastian Vollmer might just have a bad case of “old man”. These players are joining Rob Ninkovich, Jabaal Sheard, Malcolm Mitchell, and a bunch of other players that were expected to have a key role for the 2016 Patriots team.

So is there any reason to panic? How are the back-ups looking? And how about some of the positive story lines?

Sophomore tight end AJ Derby might just be the big story of the preseason and he looks like a lock to make the squad after two straight dominant performances. The cornerback depth chart looks deep after some good play from Darryl Roberts, Cre’Von LeBlanc, and Jonathan Jones.

Who needs to be absolutely dominant against the Panthers to win a roster spot? The team has to get down to 75 players by August 30th and they’ve already started the purge.
