In early March, the New England Patriots signed free agent defensive tackle Frank Kearse to a one-year contract. The veteran journeyman was a longshot to make the roster given the Patriots’ depth at defensive tackle, so it was not a surprise to hear reports of his release.
However, Kearse was never cut. Instead, the team placed him on injured reserve four days later. Now, the 27-year old was part of another transaction: the Patriots have released him off their injured reserve list, according to Doug Kyed.
UPDATE: Frank Kearse was released by the Patriots from injured reserve with an injury settlement today.
The move comes following reports of Kearse having suffered a stab wound in the abdomen during a recent domestic dispute with his girlfriend.
According to the Sun Chronicle, the defensive tackle was treated in an Attleboro hospital on Wednesday because of the wound. Both Kearse and his girlfriend appeared in court, where she pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and battery.
