Week 1 early games picks and Patriots rooting guide

Use this post for discussion of the early games from NFL’s week 1!

The New England Patriots play tonight, but I’m sure everyone will be watching football today! Here are the games scheduled for the 1:00 PM EST slate, and who I believe will win each game- and who the Patriots will be supporting.

1:00 PM EST

Buccaneers at Falcons (-2.5): The Falcons are slight favorites and I think the Matt Ryan-Julio Jones combination will be enough to carry the day. Patriots won’t care which team wins.

Bills at Ravens (-3): The Ravens are at home, but this seems to be a trap. The Ravens have been dealing with a lot of injuries and I wouldn’t be surprised if Rex Ryan rose to the occasion for the Bills and pulled out the victory. The Patriots will be rooting for the Ravens.

Bears at Texans (-6): The Texans will try to shred the questionable Bears defense, although I question if Houston will win by a full touchdown. The Patriots will be rooting for the Bears.

Packers (-4.5) at Jaguars: This game will be on FOX for those in the New England area. I’m surprised Green Bay is only a 4.5-point favorite. I think they win by more and the Patriots will be rooting for the Packers.

Chargers at Chiefs (-6.5): I don’t think the Chargers are going to have a fun time in Arrowhead. I pick the Chiefs, although I don’t know if they’ll win by a full touchdown. The Patriots will be rooting for the Chargers because they currently seem like an easier draw in the playoffs.

Raiders at Saints (-1.5): The Raiders are looking to make a statement that they’re ready to compete for the playoffs and the Saints are still a weak defensive team. I think the Raiders pull off the upset. Patriots will be rooting for the Saints.

Bengals (-2.5) at Jets: This game will be on CBS for those in the New England area. The Bengals are going through some changes on offense, but they still feature a strong defensive front. I think the Bengals win and cover, while the Patriots will be hoping for the same result.

Browns at Eagles (-3.5): I think the Eagles pull of the victory, but I don’t think they cover. This will be an ugly game. The Patriots will be rooting for the Eagles.

Vikings (-2.5) at Titans: The Vikings will enter this game without starting quarterback Tedy Bridgewater for the rest of the year, and possibly beyond. I think they come out flat and the Titans surprise them for a victory. Patriots will be rooting for the Vikings.
