The Patriots are always looking to update their emergency list, so working out David Cobb isn't exactly news to the average Patriot fan, but this tweet from Jeff Howe is interesting.
RB David Cobb worked out for the Patriots today. Won't sign now. Pats will assess weekend waiver wire before proceeding.

The Patriots are waiting on how the waiver wire process plays out as teams approach final cut-downs. Cobb was released as part of the Titans' roster cut-down to 75 players. The Patriots suffered an injury to Tyler Gaffney in the 2nd half of their final preseason game and his status on the roster is very tenuous at best. On my 53-man roster projection, I didn't rule out the possibility of a waiver claim even though the projected roster does not have a specific player in mind. Notable players on the bubble include Tennessee's Bishop Sankey, who has since been released, and Kansas City's Knile Davis.
The Patriots will be rolling mainly with LeGarrette Blount and James White at RB, although DJ Foster made a case to be retained with two solid preseason performances in the two games he played. Final roster cut-downs are due at 4pm tomorrow, but the waiver claim process will go past the deadline, so a player who makes the initial 53-man roster might be released in order to accommodate the extra roster spot. With Rob Ninkovich likely suspended for the first four games, the roster spot may be open. One thing to note with the bottom third of the roster is that it's always fluid and a lot of turnover.
