The New England Patriots had a short week to prepare for the Houston Texans and the team was running out of quarterbacks. Tom Brady was (is) suspended, while Jimmy Garoppolo sustained a shoulder injury against the Dolphins.
This left rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett as the only healthy option and he was too busy learning the game plan to serve as scout team quarterback. What could the Patriots do?
#Patriots practice player of the week: TE AJ Derby.
— New England Patriots (@Patriots) September 27, 2016
TE AJ Derby is a former college quarterback and it’s extremely likely that he was asked to practice as Texans quarterback Brock Osweiler. The Patriots completely dominated Osweiler and the Texans offense, so Derby is a well deserved practice player of the week.
