The New England Patriots have started their divisional round playoff game against the Houston Texans sloppy. Self-inflicted mistakes – turnovers, untimely penalties, bad overall play – have made the game closer than it should have been.
Still, the Patriots entered the second half with a 17-13 lead. After going three-and-out on their opening series of the third quarter, New England went on its best drive of the day so far. Starting at their own 10-yard line, the team went 90 yards to expand its lead to 24-13.
The final play of the drive was a perfectly executed back-shoulder pass from quarterback Tom Brady to running back James White. On 3rd and 3, they picked up 19 yards and six points:
White started in the backfield but was able to beat his opposing player – linebacker Benardrick McKinney – to get open down the left sideline. Brady threw a perfect pass and the Patriots were able to make it a two-possession game again.
