The New England Patriots have two of the brightest young minds in football on their coaching staff: Offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and defensive coordinator Matt Patricia are both highly regarded around the league. The interest both received on the coaching market this year reflects that.
However, with vacancies around the league being filled one after the other it became clear that at least one – Matt Patricia – will stay in New England next year. Now, according to Jason LaCanfora, it seems as if the other will as well:
Huge news - Josh McDaniels very unlikely to take the 49ers job. Set to bow out from consideration and remain with the Patriots
McDaniels has given the 49ers situation much consideration and his dropping out not a reflection on them, just a personal decision ...
The 49ers very much interested in McDaniels, but moving across country, taking this opportunity now at age 40 w/young family not likely...
The report has not yet officially been confirmed, but it seems highly likely that McDaniels will stay in New England. This, obviously, is great news for the Patriots as it means that the team will keep its two coordinators in place for a sixth straight season.
