New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick got his start in the NFL as a special teams coordinator, so you’ll have to forgive him for geeking out during RB Dion Lewis’ kick return touchdown.
Belichick joined former Patriots QB Scott Zolak for the Belichick Breakdown where he analyzed Lewis’ return, the touchdown pass to RB James White, and the interceptions by FS Devin McCourty and Logan Ryan.
Belichick highlights the role and performance of almost every player on special teams during Lewis’ return. Matthew Slater, Nate Ebner, Geneo Grissom, Shea McClellin, Brandon Bolden, and Brandon King- players at the core of the Patriots special teams unit- all made key plays to spring Lewis for the end zone.
On the other plays, Belichick points out White’s one-on-one battle with a linebacker, McCourty’s ability to break on the ball, and how Ryan’s interception served as the “turning point” of the game.
