The New England Patriots are playing in the Super Bowl for an NFL-record ninth time in franchise history and for the seventh time under head coach Bill Belichick. The Patriots hold a 4-2 record in Super Bowls with Belichick and QB Tom Brady.
Belichick will set the NFL record for most Super Bowl appearances as a player or coach with 10- two with the Giants, eight with the Patriots (he was an assistant under Bill Parcells for Super Bowl XXXI vs the Packers), and the most as a head coach (seven). Brady will set the record for most Super Bowls played by a single player with seven.
The Patriots reached the Super Bowl after dispatching the Houston Texans (34-16) and the Pittsburgh Steelers (36-17) in the AFC playoffs. The Falcons romped through the NFC with similarly impressive wins over the Seattle Seahawks (36-20) and the Green Bay Packers (44-21).
The Falcons are 1-5 when they score 30 or fewer points in a game. The Patriots have allowed just one team to surpass 30 points all season (31-24 loss in week 9 vs Seattle Seahawks).
