You may have heard it by now: The New England Patriots made a huge move yesterday by sending backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo to the San Francisco 49ers in exchange for a second round draft pick in 2018. The trade is a big one for the two teams involved. The currently winless 49ers receive their potential quarterback of the future in Garoppolo.
Meanwhile, the Patriots show their belief that Tom Brady will continue playing on his current level for the foreseeable future. As with a lot of trades New England has made in the past – Chandler Jones, Jamie Collins and Logan Mankins come to mind – the move does not come without controversy, though, particularly regarding the compensation the team has received.
Earlier during the year, rumors were swirling around that Garoppolo might net the Patriots at least a first round draft pick. A few months later, the team receives a second rounder for the soon-to-be 26-year old – a potential let-down at first glance but a testament for how Garoppolo's trade market really developed.
With all that in mind, how do you feel about the trade? Take the poll and elaborate in the comments!
