Former New England Patriots quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo didn’t play for the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday against the New York Giants. The 49ers actually recorded their first win of the season in a 31-21 demolition of the 1-win Giants, thanks to a solid performance by rookie C.J. Beathard, who went 19/25 (76%) for 288 yards, 2 touchdowns, and and interception for a passer rating of 123.4.
Maybe that performance bought Beathard a longer leash, but prior to the game the 49ers were expecting to turn the offense over to Garoppolo after their bye in week 11 according to Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer.
#49ers will start their new QB Jimmy Garoppolo for the first time against the #Seahawks on Week 12, following their Week 11 bye, per @JayGlazer

The 49ers are clearly not playing for a playoff spot so they’re more interested in what each player on the roster is able to bring to the table- and since Beathard is under his rookie contract, they might rather have more time to watch Garoppolo before giving him a big contract extension.
