The New England Patriots did not play a perfect game against the visiting Miami Dolphins but were still able to blow out their opponent by a score of 35-17. The contest saw some standout performances and the following three are competing for today's game ball – let's take a look at the candidates:
Candidate: CB Stephon Gilmore
Stephon Gilmore's early-season struggles are clearly a thing of the past: The first-year Patriot has been in lockdown mode the last few weeks. Against the Dolphins, he was spectacular and shut down whoever he lined up against. Overall, Gilmore was targeted three times, allowing only one 5-yard catch while also registering a huge interception at the end of the first half while a second pick of his was “stolen” by fellow defensive back Duron Harmon.
Candidate: TE Rob Gronkowski
After two relatively quiet games after the bye week, Rob Gronkowski had a very good day against the Dolphins. The NFL's best tight end was targeted a team-high eight times, catching five passes for 82 yards and a pair of scores. Gronkowski was more involved in the passing game today and showed why he is a nightmare for opposing defenses to defend due to his size and route running abilities.
Candidate: RB Dion Lewis
The Patriots' ground game played its most productive game of the year and Dion Lewis was a big part of it, leading the group with the first 100-yard rushing game of his career. Overall, Lewis carried the football 15 times for 112 yards and pulled off one big run after the other. He was elusive and nearly unstoppable all day long and continues to show why he is New England's number one running back at the moment.
With all that in mind, who is your choice for this week's game ball?
