The New England Patriots returned to the fields behind Gillette Stadium today to hold their first practice session of the week. As has been reported earlier today, the team had some notable absences, although some core players dealing with injuries were either back or practicing despite their ailments.
With all that in mind, let's take a look at today's injury report:
Did not participate
QB Tom Brady (achilles)
OT Marcus Cannon (ankle)
WR Chris Hogan (shoulder)
LB Trevor Reilly (concussion)
OT LaAdrian Waddle (ankle)
Just like last week, Tom Brady was absent from the Patriots' first practice of the week. However, he was spotted in the locker room after the session and did not appear to be suffering from any obvious injury, leading to the belief that he was simply given a day off. Also spotted, although on their way to the rehabilitation field, were Chris Hogan and Trevor Reilly – positive signs as it relates to their recovery.
The absences of Marcus Cannon and LaAdrian Waddle, on the other hand, are noticeable. If both should be out this week, third stringer Cameron Fleming is expected to be the next man up – and he would go against talented edge rushers Jerry Hughes or Lorenzo Alexander in his first start of the season.
Limited participation
WR Danny Amendola (knee)
OC David Andrews (illness)
LB Marquis Flowers (knee)
DE Trey Flowers (ribs)
CB Eric Rowe (groin)
WR Matthew Slater (hamstring)
LB Kyle Van Noy (calf)
The Patriots' list of limited participants looks slightly different when compared to last week. While Danny Amendola, Eric Rowe and Matthew Slater were limited leading up to the Dolphins game as well, David Andrews, Marquis Flowers, Trey Flowers and Kyle Van Noy are new additions to the list. The former was upgraded after being out all of the last two weeks with an illness, while the other three were added after suffering injuries on Sunday.
Two other players, Patrick Chung and Malcom Brown were removed from the injury report.
For comparison, the Bills' injury report looks as follows:
Did not participate
WR Kelvin Benjamin (knee)
OT Cordy Glenn (foot/ankle)
OG John Miller (ankle)
TE Nick O'Leary (back)
RB Mike Tolbert (hamstring)
DE Eddie Yarbrough (chest)
Limited participation
TE Charles Clay (knee)
WR Jordan Matthews (knee)
Full participation
FB Patrick DiMarco (ankle)
