The Pats Pulpit staff has voted on the midseason awards for the New England Patriots and this one has to be the biggest no-brainer of them all. I made the rule that quarterback Tom Brady couldn’t win Most Valuable Player, so he was a natural fit as Offensive Player of the Halfyear.
Here are our thoughts below.
Offensive Player of the Halfyear: QB Tom Brady
McDermott: Tom Brady
Thomas: Tom Brady
Moore: Tom Brady
Rewinski: Gotta be Brady, hence the "Non-Tom-Brady MVP" award, I guess.
Keiran: Brady, duh
Bernd: Tom Brady. Even with the offensive line and running game being shaky at times, the greatest quarterback of all time is having another spectacular season. Brady is the league leader in passing yards (2,541), attempts (309) and completions (206) and has thrown 16 touchdowns versus only two interceptions. Most importantly, he is putting the offense in a position to succeed every single week.
Rich’s thoughts: This was an easy one. No running back has separated from the pack enough to take the crown from Brady. No one on the offensive line has been enough of a standout, although Shaq Mason definitely would be in my top five. Rob Gronkowski and Brandin Cooks are certainly playing at a high level, too, but it all comes down to Tom Brady making another change in his style of play and still performing at a high level, even if it means standing longer in the pocket and taking more hits.
