The New England Patriots have won their 12th game of the season earlier today when the team defeated the visiting Buffalo Bills 37-16. For most of the contest, the game was closer than the final score indicates but New England was able to pull away late to make sure it keeps the top spot in the race for the AFC's number one playoff seed.
Three of the players who played a key role in securing the win are up for today's game ball note. Take a look at the candidates:
Candidate: TE Rob Gronkowski
Unlike last week, Rob Gronkowski did not have a career-day today against Buffalo. Still, the NFL's best tight end once again proved why he is just that with another very good day at the office. Gronkowski caught five passes on seven targets, gaining 67 yards and making one of the best touchdown catches of the season. Furthermore, he also was his usual impressive self as a blocker.
Candidate: RB Dion Lewis
No James White? No Rex Burkhead? No problem. Dion Lewis made the most out of his heavier than usual workload and was nearly unstoppable versus the Bills. The Patriots' top running back carried the football 24 times for 129 yards and a touchdown while also catching five passes for 24 yards and a score. On top of all that, he also had two kickoffs for 43 yards. Another highly productive performance.
Cadidate: LB Marquis Flowers
The Patriots defense did not play a flawless game against the Bills but buckled up when it needed to and delivered some key stops in the second half. The unit's standout player was Marquis Flowers, who led the team in both tackles (10) and sacks (2.5) and was active all game long as a pass and run defender. With Kyle Van Noy missing another week due to injury, Flowers answered the call.
With all that in mind, who is your choice for this week's game ball?
