The New England Patriots opened up Gillette Stadium in 2002 and it has been proved to be an incredibly difficult venue for opposing teams. Quarterback Tom Brady certainly has played a major role in the team’s success and it’s reflected in his win-loss record.
Brady and the Patriots victory over the Buffalo Bills in week 16 represented Brady’s 100th career regular season victory at Gillette Stadium. Brady also has 16 postseason victories at Gillette.
There have been just five other quarterbacks to win multiple games at Gillette Stadium and one of them, Matt Cassel, earned four wins as Brady’s replacement in 2008. The other four quarterbacks are:
- Chad Pennington: 2002, 2006, 2008
- Joe Flacco: 2009 playoffs, 2012 playoffs
- Brett Favre: 2002, 2008
- Peyton Manning: 2005, 2006
That’s pretty incredible. Since 2002, the Patriots have gone on the road and beaten 25 teams multiple times. The only exceptions are five NFC teams (Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, Seattle Seahawks, Carolina Panthers, and, uh, Washington) and the Kansas City Chiefs.
So to have just four quarterbacks from other teams come in to Gillette Stadium and defeat the Patriots is an incredible testament to the consistent greatness of the Patriots since 2002.
