The NFL announced a one-game suspension for New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski for his late hit on Buffalo Bills cornerback Tre’Davious White for violation of unnecessary roughness rules.

The letter to Gronkowski included the note, “your actions were not incidental, could have been avoided and placed the opposing player at risk of serious injury. The Competition Committee has clearly expressed its goal of ‘eliminating flagrant hits that have no place in our game.’ Those hits include the play you were involved in yesterday.”
Gronkowski would miss Monday night’s game against the Miami Dolphins, opening the door for a greater role by Dwayne Allen and Jacob Hollister. This suspension also means that Gronkowski could miss out on up to $4 million in incentive bonuses.
Gronkowski is expected to appeal his suspension, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
