Report: 3 NFL Executives believe ‘several teams’ are preparing a ‘blockbuster’ trade for Patriots QB Jimmy Garoppolo

The market is just starting to heat up for Patriots back-up QB Jimmy Garoppolo.

If you haven’t had your daily dose of Jimmy Garoppolo trade rumors today, you’re in for a treat.

Mike Freeman, Bleacher Report’s Lead NFL Writer, on Wednesday vaguely outlined his discussions with three NFL Exectutives regarding their thoughts on the Garropolo trade market.

“What those executives are telling me—three of them, two from the NFC—is they believe some team is going to make the New England Patriots an offer for Jimmy Garoppolo they cannot refuse.” Freeman states. “They think a draft shakeup is coming and that it will involve Garoppolo. The increasingly popular view among some in the league is that Garoppolo can transform a franchise almost overnight and is worth a first-round pick.”

Freeman believes that the success of Cowboys QB Dak Prescott has put the pressure on some teams to find their own franchise quarterback to push their team over the top. Dallas was a bottom-feeder in 2015 and it would seem that many attribute the team’s success in 2016 to the emergence of Prescott.

The big discussion surrounding Garoppolo is the trade compensation necessary to acquire him from the Patriots. Many believe that the Patriots could receive the equivalent draft capital of a late-first round pick.

Freeman’s report leads us to believe that some team is going to give the Patriots a Godfather offer (one they can’t refuse), which would likely require more than a late-first.

This story is always going to be interesting to follow.
