Patriots hosting DL Lawrence Guy and WR Justin Hunter

Patriots could be looking to add camp depth to start the second day of free agency

The Patriots open the 2nd day of free agency with two announced visits. The Patriots will host former defensive lineman Lawrence Guy and wideout Justin Hunter. Guy is the more intriguing name of the two, with plenty of experience as a rotational defensive lineman for 3-4 teams. Justin Hunter recently played for the Bills, but hasn’t amounted to anything in the NFL more than a practice squad and backup receiver.

The Patriots look to be adding a few bodies to the back-end of the 90-man camp roster. The Patriots re-signed Alan Branch yesterday while also having Malcom Brown and Vincent Valentine on the roster. There are also two practice squad DTs in Woodrow Hamilton and Darius Kilgo that have in-game experience. The Patriots may be looking to add Guy to that competition.

On the WR side, Justin Hunter would probably be just a camp body to play the latter portions of preseason games. Hunter is tall and fast, but that hasn’t translated into success in the NFL. The Patriots currently have 59 players signed and I figure about 20 more spots go to rookies, so the Patriots need 11 more camp bodies potentially.
