Today is the final day of the 2017 NFL scouting combine in Indianapolis. One last time representatives of the 32 franchises get together to watch and analyze potential draftees, and to do some early work on player contracts. Another get-together – one focused on the past instead of the future – took place yesterday on NFL Network.
New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick joined hosts Rich Eisen and Mike Mayock in the broadcasting booth. Mayock, who at one point played with the New York Giants when Belichick was coaching linebackers, quickly arranged to get the Super Bowl winning coach a headset to talk to another former player of his: Willie McGinest.
McGinest and Belichick went on to talk about favorite moments and plays together, and two of those involved the team whose stadium hosts the scouting combine: the Indianapolis Colts. Naturally, due to their success against the city’s team both men recounted that they are not particularly well-liked in Indianapolis – although Belichick’s reception apparently changed after going for it on 4th-and-2 back in 2009.
