The Patriots claimed Floyd off waivers towards the end of the 2016 NFL season after the Arizona Cardinals released Floyd for driving under the influence. New England had been looking to acquire a #1 wide receiver and believed Floyd to be worth an opportunity.
Floyd played a big role in the season finale against the Miami Dolphins, but was phased out in the playoffs in favor of rookie WR Malcolm Mitchell. Once the Patriots acquired WR Brandin Cooks from the New Orleans Saints over the offseason, the chance of a reunion between Floyd and the Patriots were as good as zero.
Floyd is likely to be suspended for some part of the 2017 NFL season.
