TBT to an all-time great Patriots defense that we’ll probably never see again: the three-man defensive front that packed a total of almost 1,000 lbs of beef.
We’re referring, of course, to the unholy trinity of Richard Seymour, Vince Wilfork, and Ty Warren (and a couple other nose tackles before Big Vince got to town) taking on five offensive linemen and not only allowing some well-timed linebacker blitzes (sup, Willie McGinest?) to take care of whatever an opposing offense felt like rolling the dice on, but generating plenty of pressure on their own. CSNNE’s Tom E. Curran had a great retrospective a couple years back on how pointless it was to try to block Richard Seymour one-on-one, and it doesn’t take a genius at math to figure out that if you’re double-teaming a 3-4 defensive end, and the defense sent any type of heat whatsoever, well, you’re going to have a bad time.
Thanks for indulging the nostalgia for a second. Anyway, like a lot of us at this time of year, Richard Seymour is spending his summertime enjoying some well-deserved R&R (except the entire Pats Pulpit staff, of course - NO DAYS OFF here). Seymour’s been posting up at the Charity Series of Poker for the past couple days, where he’s a featured celebrity guest and doesn’t seem to be playing half bad either.
For those of you that aren’t familiar with the Charity Series of Poker, it appears to be an event that runs at the same time of year as the World Series of Poker tournament. Here’s what they’re about, per their website:
“Established in 2014, the Charity Series of Poker is a non-profit company founded to organize and promote charity poker tournaments and other events that raise money and awareness for worthy charities and causes. We strive to make it easy for poker players and celebrities to give back to their communities and the world in a very tangible way while playing the game we all love.”
And here’s Richard Seymour having a blast playing some Texas Hold ‘Em:

Not sure which tourney this is from, but by my math, that’s a lot of chips:

If you can master a Bill Belichick defense, poker can’t be THAT hard.
But he’s still not too cool to take a pic with a fan!
Hey @PatsPropaganda look who I got stuck sitting next to at the World Series of Poker...
