Will the Patriots make space?

New England Patriots WR Austin Carr needs a big game against the New York Giants to secure a roster spot. He needs to prove to the Patriots that he’s too valuable to risk on waivers.

He’s doing what he needs to do.

Carr has collected all three of his targets from second-year QB Jacoby Brissett for 48 yards and a touchdown as the Patriots leading option in the offense. While Carr doesn’t have the best speed, he flashes the quickness needed to generate separation at the top of his routes.

Here’s Carr scoring a 14-yard touchdown.

Carr has strong hands and is able to pluck the ball out of the air and plays like a quality possession slot player. He needs to work on his speed to become a more well-rounded receiver and to compete for playing time, but he’s on his way to earning a red shirt season on the Patriots active roster.

Brissett is having a solid day of production, completing 9 of 10 for 112 passes and 2 touchdowns. His only incompletion was a pick-six, although he’s also been throwing behind his receivers out of their breaks and a high for his receivers up the seam. He really needs to work on his accuracy.

The Patriots lost 40-38, but that was a surprisingly fun game. What'd you think?
