Watch Jacoby Brissett throw the most incredible TD pass of the preseason

New, comments

I’m not sure he did this on purpose.

Some touchdown passes- like Jacoby Brissett’s first of the evening- are on purpose. Brissett intentionally tries to hit WR Cody Hollister with a backshoulder throw that isn’t completely on target and the receiver has to make a play. But Brissett made his drops and delivered the pass. It was on purpose.

Watch the above GIF of Brissett’s third touchdown pass of the evening. He’s already scrambling before his finishes his drop in the pocket. He doesn’t step into his throw- he lobs a hook shot that would make Kareem Abdul-Jabbar blush.

AND IT WORKS. You can’t throw a more perfect pass even if you wanted to. In fact, I think the hook shot is necessary for the trajectory to drop the ball right into Devin Lucien’s hands. Any traditional throw would have lacked the arc and gone right out of the end zone.

Brissett is putting together a strong game, despite some minor placement issues, going 15 of 19 for 164 yards, 3 touchdowns, and a pick-six. He’s also rushed twice for 16 yards. He’s a lock to make the team and he’s having the game needed to make the team comfortable with the idea of life after Jimmy Garoppolo.

The Patriots lost 40-38, but that was a surprisingly fun game. What'd you think?
