The New England Patriots have released FB Glenn Gronkowski from the roster, bringing the roster count down to 88, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

Gronkowski played 12 snaps on offense and 12 snaps on special teams against the New York Giants, but he fumbled his one touch of the day, setting up a short field for a Giants score.
He was always going to be a longshot after the Patriots reached a long-term contract with FB James Develin, but Gronkowski could still land on the Patriots practice squad because of the versatility he brings to the scout team at practice. He just didn’t do enough this summer to win a spot on the active roster.
