EDIT: Apparently those originally reported numbers were extremely far from reality. Here are the real details. The original article is kept at the bottom.
Kyle Van Noy signed a 2-year extension with the Patriots valued at $11.75 million in new money, according to the Boston Globe’s Ben Volin, with a $3.5 million signing bonus and his $2 million base salary in 2018 guaranteed. When you factor in Van Noy’s 2017 rookie contract, the linebacker is on essentially a 3-year, $12.87 million deal.
It was originally reported that Van Noy was going to earn $1.115 million per year in 2018 and 2019 and that would have been a major bargain. Those reports were wrong and Van Noy is earning a much higher figure.
Van Noy is now the second-highest paid linebacker on the Patriots, behind Dont’a Hightower ($8.875 million per year), and ahead of Shea McClellin ($3.017 million per year) and David Harris ($2.50 million per year).
Here are the real contract details.
Van Noy is definitely not under the same deal that I originally considered “a bargain” and he’s set to be the Patriots starting linebacker opposite of Dont’a Hightower through the year 2019.
Original article
The New England Patriots signed LB Kyle Van Noy to a 2-year extension on September 8th and CLNS’s Mike Petraglia, formerly of WEEI, had the contract details at the time of the new deal. The numbers somehow flew under the radar.
Van Noy's 2-year extension thru 2019 worth $2.23 ($1.115 million in '18, '19). Makes just $990K this year. Great value for base D player

A 2-year, $2.23 million extension for Kyle Van Noy is a ridiculous bargain. While the breakdown of base salary versus bonus and guaranteed money is unknown, we know that Van Noy is on the books in 2017 for the exact same $1.115 million that he’s scheduled to earn in 2018 and 2019.
Van Noy has a base salary of $990,741, a roster bonus of $100,000, and a workout bonus of $25,000 for the current season. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see a similar structure moving forward.
If these numbers are real, then Van Noy will be under contract for a deal roughly similar to that of a late second- or early third-round pick. That’s a bargain for a proven veteran.
“Kyle has good skills,” Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said on Monday morning. “He’s athletic, runs well, tackles well, can rush the passer, play in pass coverage, does a good job playing the run. So, he has a good skillset, which is what you need to be out there in different situations.”
The Patriots acquired Van Noy from the Detroit Lions in the middle of the 2016 season and the former 40th overall pick became a defensive starter for New England down the stretch. He’s able to rush the quarterback and drop back into coverage, although he needs to work on his tackling consistency.
And now he’ll have at least two more years in New England to work on his skills.
With Van Noy under contract, almost all of the Patriots key defensive contributors are signed through the 2018 season. CB Malcolm Butler is the only exception and is one of the team’s top free agent priorities moving forward, along with LT Nate Solder and QB Jimmy Garoppolo.
