The 4:00 p.m. ET deadline has come and gone and the New England Patriots are now under the 53-man roster limit. However, not all moves have been made public yet, so we still rely on reports to follow the moves. One such report was made by the Boston Herald's Jeff Howe:
Geneo Grissom released, per source.
— Jeff Howe (@jeffphowe) September 2, 2017
Grissom originally entered the NFL as a third round draft pick by the Patriots in 2015. After showing some flashes his rookie campaign, he was released during final roster cutdowns in 2016 but ultimately found his way back onto the active roster. Serving mostly as a special teamer he played 251 of 449 snaps during the regular season (55.9%) and 62 of 93 (66.7%) during the Patriots' playoff run.
With the Patriots' defensive edge in flux entering 2017, Grissom's chances to make the team appeared to be solid. However, an injury limited him to two preseason games. And while he was a standout in the final one against the New York Giants, it was not enough to help him make the roster.
Grissom is still practice squad eligible.
