When the New England Patriots acquired WR Phillip Dorsett, there was a question of where he would fit in such a deep group of receivers. Even with the loss of Julian Edelman, the Patriots had Brandin Cooks, Chris Hogan, Danny Amendola, and Malcolm Mitchell ahead of Dorsett on the depth chart.
Well, now that question has been answered. According to multiple reports, the Patriots have placed Malcolm Mitchell on the injured reserve with a knee injury and have promoted OL Ted Karras from the practice squad to take his open roster spot.
The Patriots have also signed DB Jomal Wiltz to take Karras’ spot on the practice squad, per ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
With Mitchell now out of the picture for at least the next eight weeks, the Patriots will thrust Dorsett into a contributing role right out of the gate. He should have a few designed plays from offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to get the receiver’s feet wet in the new offense.
