Matt Patricia is the front runner for the Giants head coaching job, but it sounds like Landon Collins doesn’t want him

Collins doesn’t want to work hard enough to win, apparently.

New England Patriots defensive coordinator Matt Patricia is one of the favorites for the vacant New York Giants head coaching job and for good reason. He has plenty of experience as a coach and is one of the brightest young minds in the game. But it appears he doesn’t have unanimous support for the job.

Giants All Pro safety Landon Collins wants nothing to do with anyone like Bill Belichick because “Belichick is too similar to his college coach, Nick Saban, for his taste,” Collins told the New York Post. Collins also “credited Saban’s rigid style with getting him to the NFL, but it’s not something he wants to live through again.”

“The way [Belichick] runs his organization, I’ve been through that process. I don’t like it,” Collins said. “It’s too strict. …. He’s a great winner, he’s a great coach. I don’t know if [his style] is what the organization really wants.

“I talked to guys who played for [his] team. They love winning, but at the same time, they don’t want to be on the team.”

Collins’ response was with regards to the dumb rumors that Belichick would want to coach the Giants, but it applies to all of Belichick’s acolytes, too.

And I hate to break it to Collins, but Patricia will be extremely similar to Belichick. After all, the 43-year old has spent almost his entire coaching career under the future Hall of Fame head coach. He joined the Patriots in 2004 and worked his way up to defensive coordinator – all under Belichick's watchful eye.

There’s a reason why Belichick and Saban are the current reigning champions in each of the sports and have won 11 championships dating back to the 2001 season- Belichick in 2001, 2003, 2004, 2014, and 2016; Saban in 2003, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, and 2017. Their style of coaching is about dominating with fundamentals and strict discipline. They rarely make mistakes and that’s why they’re able to compete in every game.

But I guess Collins isn’t interested in that. We’ll see if he feels the same way after another 3-13 season if the Giants sign someone other than Patricia – or Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels – as the head coach.
