The 2017 AFC Championship Game between the New England Patriots and the Jacksonville Jaguars came down to the wire but in the end – as they usually do – the Patriots pulled out a victory. Coming down from a 10-point deficit, New England went on to defeat the Jaguars 24-20 to earn yet another trip to the Super Bowl. A lot of players contributed to the victory, but let's take a look at three deserving of this week's game ball.
Candidate: WR Danny Amendola
Danny Amendola surely has earned his nickname “Playoff” – and his game against the Jaguars again showed why. The veteran was simply unstoppable in the late fourth quarter, catching two touchdowns to help the Patriots get the lead. Overall, Amendola registered seven receptions for 84 yards and those two scores as well as two punt returns for 25 yards.
Candidate: QB Tom Brady
He played with an injured hand. He was under relentless pressure for large portions of the game. He lost his best skill position player to injury before halftime. He never quit. Tom Brady, adding to his legacy as the greatest quarterback of all time, had another one of his patented performances. The 40-year old led his team back from 10 down in the final period during a game in which he completed 26 of 38 passes for 290 yards and two touchdowns.
Candidate: P Ryan Allen
During the first three quarters, the Patriots had a tough time moving the football on offense. However, they were able to keep the damage in relative check and punter Ryan Allen played a big role in that. The veteran helped keep the field position battle in New England's favor whenever called upon – an underrated yet important fact of the game. He will not win this vote but he has earned some recognition.
With all that in mind, who is your choice for this week’s game ball?
