Tom Brady is the consensus greatest quarterback of all time due to his combination of statistics, individual and team success, and longevity. The New England Patriots’ passer also can be considered the “G.O.A.T.” in another category: selling merchandise. Even though Brady has been in the NFL as a starter for 17 years he is still among the league-leaders in sold products year in and year out. 2018 is no exception.
The NFL Players Association recently published its list of merchandise sales form March 1, 2018 through August 31, 2018 – roughly the time frame of the NFL’s offseason – and once again Brady tops the rankings. The Patriots’ passer sold more combined products than any other player in the league, which is even more impressive considering that by now every human being in New England likely possesses some Brady memorabilia.
The 41-year old is one of three Patriots players to make the list of the 50 most popular players in terms of merchandise sales:
1. QB Tom Brady
15. TE Rob Gronkowski
44. WR Julian Edelman
Led by Brady, New England has one of the NFL’s premier offenses. It is therefore no surprise to see only members of the unit make the list. That being said, the ranking in itself is heavily tilted towards offense: only eight of the 50 names belong to defensive players. One reason for that could be the popularity of fantasy football, which typically lists offensive players individually but bundles together team’s defenses as one unit.
