In not even 90 minutes, the New England Patriots will play their seventh game of the season. It will not be easy on the road against the Chicago Bears, though: not only is the team ranked in the top ten in scoring offense and scoring defense, it also meets a Patriots squad that will be without some important players as a look at the list of inactive players shows.
Patriots inactives
OT Marcus Cannon
DE Geneo Grissom
TE Rob Gronkowski
TE Jacob Hollister
DE John Simon
OL Brian Schwenke
DE Keionta Davis
Five of the players above have already been declared out prior to the official release of the inactives list: Marcus Cannon (concussion) was ruled out on Friday, Geneo Grissom (ankle), Rob Gronkowski (ankle/back), Jacob Hollister (hamstring) and John Simon (shoulder) joined him earlier today. The biggest names on the list are, of course, Cannon and Gronkowski, who will be replaced in the lineup by veteran backups LaAdrian Waddle and Dwayne Allen, respectively.
The list of inactives also includes healthy scratches Brian Schwenke and Keionta Davis but not some of the more noticeable players named on Friday’s final injury report: offensive playmakers Sony Michel, Julian Edelman and Josh Gordon are – as expected – active, as are defensive linemen Deatrich Wise Jr. and Malcom Brown. The latter of the two defenders returns after a one-game absence last week.
Bears inactives
DB Marcus Cooper Sr.
FB Michael Burton
LB Kylie Fitts
OL Rashaad Coward
OL Bryan Witzmann
WR Javon Wims
DT Nick Williams
The biggest news out of Chicago is the activity of star pass rusher Khalil Mack. The former Oakland Raider is dealing with an ankle injury and was listed as “questionable” on Friday.
