After both of their last Super Bowl victories – in 2014 and 2016 –, NFL Films produced a documentation focusing on the New England Patriots’ season and playoff run from the coaching staff’s perspective. No third installment of the series was made this year, courtesy of the team losing on the game’s biggest stage. However, the organization has decided to take matters into its own hands as it unveiled last week.
The team created a documentary focusing on the people working behind the scenes: the football operations staff. While not affiliated with NFL Films, the documentation also carries the franchise’s organizational mantra as its name: Do Your Job. The first episode of this third production named like that premiered earlier today, focusing on the Patriots’ head equipment manager, Brenden Murphy.
Narrated by Patriots special teams ace Matthew Slater, the episode takes a look at Murphy’s responsibilities and his daily routine in making sure to get the team’s equipment ready – no matter what it takes or what kind of requests he receives. It also includes soundbites from New England players such as Devin McCourty and Rob Gronkowski as well as head coach Bill Belichick.
