While the New England Patriots did not play a perfect 60 minutes of football against the Indianapolis Colts, the team still won its week five contest in dominating fashion: the Patriots defeated their self-proclaimed rival by a final score of 38-24. New England had plenty of noteworthy performances tonight, but let’s take a look at three deserving of game ball recognition:
QB Tom Brady
For Tom Brady, it was a tale of two halves. While he was lights out all game long, his receivers failed to hold onto the football after the half which led to his two interceptions. The turnovers, however, should not distract from the fact that the 41-year old played a great game. Brady was accurate, made great decisions, and led an efficient offense while finishing with a respectable stat line: he completed 34 of 44 pass attempts for 341 yards, three touchdowns and two picks – and he scored once himself on a quarterback sneak.
SS Patrick Chung
For the second straight game, the Patriots defense performed well and was able to limited a high-powered offense. Team captain Patrick Chung was arguably the unit’s top performer. The veteran finished the day with 11 tackles, a split-sack and an interception. Furthermore, he was his usual emotional self and also had one of the best celebrations in recent memory. In short: it was a pretty successful day for Chung.
RB Sony Michel
Following an impressive performance against the Miami Dolphins on Sunday, Sony Michel had another very good game. The first-round rookie once more played a huge role in the Patriots’ offense and finished with 110 yards from scrimmage: Michel had 98 rushing yards on 18 carries and also caught a 12-yard pass. He topped his performance with a 34-yard touchdown run that essentially iced the game in New England’s favor.
With all that in mind, who is your choice for this week’s game ball?
