During a press conference on Wednesday, New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady said he was a fan of the hit musical Hamilton. So, in his honor — and thanks to some inspiration (and the first verse) by Pats Pulpit reader Matt Monitto — here is the Tom Brady version of the show’s title track.
Enjoy.
[ROGER GOODELL]
How does a sixth-round draft pick
grabbed by the Krafts, in the roster lost
while he shivers in the cold Boston frost,
the sidelines feeling every footfall nearest
football’s dearest stages,
ascend to be the greatest of the ages?
[DREW BLEDSOE]
The 3-time All-Pro starter, named like his father.
Got a lot farther by working a lot harder
By being a lot smarter
By being a self-starter
By ‘01 he was named as the Pats’ Super Bowl starter
[BILL BELICHICK]
And every day while others were traded off and cut
Sent to the gutters, he was on the fields to work his heart out
Inside, he was longing for the day he’d finally be a part of
The starting lineup. He was ready to work harder and harder.
[ROBERT KRAFT]
Then Mo Lewis came and devastation reigned,
Our man Tom Brady held his future right there in his hands
Put his helmet on his head, sought the play call in his brain
And he entered the game as his chance finally came.
[ROGER GOODELL]
Well, the word got around, they said, “This kid is insane man”
Threw passes to the likes of Brown, Patten, and Fred Coleman
“Get your routes ready, don’t forget from whence the ball came
And the world’s gonna know your name.” What’s your name, man?
[TOM BRADY]
Thomas Brady Jr.
My name is Thomas Brady Jr.
And I’m the best QB there’ll ever be.
Just you wait, just you wait.
[GISELE BUNDCHEN]
When he was 22 he knew exactly what to do
Wearing the maize and blue, he was battling a new
Challenger in town, the coaches wanted to start now
(Brady kept the job, Drew Hanson had to back down)
[CHARLIE WEIS]
At the combine he ran the slowest 40 you’ll ever see
Left him with no great outlook, maybe it’d be one of those teams
San Francisco?
“Nah, we’re going to pick the Carmazzi dude.”
He started feeling like undrafted was the best that he could ever do.
[ROGER GOODELL & COMPANY]
There would have been nothin’ left to do
For someone less astute
Maybe the CFL was something true
But with no real restitution.
Started going to New England for this former Giants guy
As a fourth-string backup with a roster spot on his mind
Readin’ every playbook that he can get his hands on
Plannin’ for a future, see him as he now stands on
The bow of a duck boat headed down Boylston Street
In Boston you are living the dream.
[COMPANY]
In Boston you are living the dream.
In Boston you are living the dream.
In Boston you are living the dream.
In Boston, Boston!

Thomas Brady Jr.
We are cheering from the stands for you
You will never back down
You never learned to take off-time
Oh, Thomas Brady Jr.
When New England sings for you
Will they know what you overcame?
Will they know you rewrote the game?
The league will never be the same!
[ROGER GOODELL & COMPANY]
Brady’s in the Super Bowl,
See if you can spot him.
Another late-round pick
Comin’ up from the bottom
The Colts tried to destroy his rep
And the North never forgot it
[BILL BELICHICK/ROBERT KRAFT]
We fought for him!
[DREW BLEDSOE]
Me? I died for him.
[CHARLIE WEIS]
Me? I trusted him.
[GISELE BÜNDCHEN]
Me? I love him.
[ROGER GOODELL]
And me? I’m the damn fool that suspended him.
[COMPANY]
There’s a million things he’s still not done!
Just you wait!
[ROGER GOODELL]
What’s your name, man?
