Coming off their bye week, the New England Patriots returned to the practice fields behind Gillette Stadium today to start preparation for their upcoming game against the New York Jets. While participation was generally solid, the injury report released earlier today still has six players listed — all of which on the offensive side of the ball, five of which starters.
Did not participate
Patriots: TE Dwayne Allen (knee)
Jets: WR Robby Anderson (ankle), OG James Carpenter (shoulder), LB Brandon Copeland (elbow), QB Sam Darnold (foot), S Marcus Maye (thumb/shoulder)
Seeing Dwayne Allen miss today’s practice does not come as a surprise. The veteran tight end exited New England’s week 10 game with a knee injury and as was later reported was expected to miss some time because of the issue. Meanwhile, five Jets players missed their team’s Wednesday practice — all of which starters, including quarterback Sam Darnold.
Limited participation
Patriots: QB Tom Brady (knee), TE Rob Gronkowski (ankle/back), OG Shaq Mason (calf), RB Sony Michel (knee)
Jets: WR Quincy Enunwa (ankle)
The biggest name on the list of limited players today is undoubtably quarterback Tom Brady, who is dealing with a knee injury. The 41-year old was not listed on the last practice report released by the Patriots ahead of their week 10 game in Tennessee, so the injury must have happened either during the contest or at a later point. The other three players are currently rehabbing and it is therefore no surprise to see them practice in limited capacity.
Full participation
Patriots: WR Julian Edelman (foot)
Jets: OT Kelvin Beachum (knee), S Terrence Brooks (thumb), CB Morris Claiborne (shoulder), RB Isaiah Crowell (ankle), OC Spencer Long (knee/finger), LB Frankie Luvu (neck), RB Elijah McGuire (foot), DT Steve McLendon (ankle), S Rontez Miles (knee/hip), LB Kevin Pierre-Louis (foot)
Like the aforementioned Allen, Julian Edelman also suffered an injury against the Titans in week 10. However, it is not seriously enough to limit him in practice. The veteran, like the Jets’ ten limited men, will play on Sunday.
When compared to the last injury report released by the Patriots, three players were removed: offensive tackle Trent Brown, tight end Jacob Hollister and linebacker Dont’a Hightower are no longer on the list.
