Week 9 Patriots vs Packers: Who gets the game ball for New England’s 31-17 win?

Who gets your vote?

NFL: Green Bay Packers at New England Patriots Stew Milne-USA TODAY Sports

The New England Patriots improve to 7-2 thanks to their 31-17 Monday night victory over the Green Bay Packers. The team played arguably its most complete game of the season so far, with contributions coming from all phases of the game. With that in mind, here are the three candidates up for today’s game ball vote:

DE Trey Flowers

While Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers was sacked just once all day, the Patriots did a very good job of putting pressure on him and moving him off the spot. The player who led the pass rush was Trey Flowers, who yet again had a big performance. Overall, the 25-year old registered five tackles and was part of the aforementioned sack. His impact, however, goes far beyond the stat sheet: Flowers influenced plays even when not getting to the quarterback, and once more was productive as a run defender.

CB Stephon Gilmore

No matter who he lined up against, Stephon Gilmore was again dominant and had another outstanding day. The second-year Patriot — mostly going against Davante Adams and Jimmy Graham early, and later on also Marquez Valdes-Scantling — played a huge role in helping the Patriots slow down a potent Packers passing game and finished the contest with just two receptions for 15 yards given up on four targets. Furthermore, Gilmore was able to pick up the momentum-changing fumble on the first play of the fourth quarter.

RB Cordarrelle Patterson

While other offensive skill position players gained more yards or scored more touchdowns on the day, Cordarrelle Patterson had as big a role as anybody in New England’s victory. Finishing the day with 61 yards and a touchdown on 11 carries, and one 7-yard reception, the former first-round draft pick led a Patriots ground game that again missed Sony Michel. Patterson’s ability to create yards and serve as a serious threat from the offensive backfield kept the defense honest and opened up opportunities for the passing game.

With all that in mind, who is your choice for this week’s game ball?
