Fridays with Bill: Inside the Football Mind of Bill Belichick, by John Powers

If you’re like me and cannot ever read enough on Bill Belichick, here is another gem to put on your wish list. Friday’s With Bill: Inside the Football Mind of Bill Belichick offers a twist from other recent books on the Patriots’ five-times Super Bowl winning head coach. Veteran Boston Globe sports writer John Powers has collected a fascinating assortment of quotes from Bill Belichick’s more relaxed Friday press conferences over his years in New England. Readers will find his wisdom, teaching moments, nostalgia, humor — and zings, all categorized fittingly by football situation.

From Game-Day Butterflies to Strategies, Special Teams (of course) to The Hoodie on Holidays, as well as the sometimes terse end-of-week exchanges with the media, the chapters pretty much cover every subject imaginable in Belichick’s own words. Easy to peruse chapter-by-chapter or plow through fullback style, this book is well worth picking up. Also works as a handy reference guide to counter anyone still riding the ‘Belichick is a humorless troll’ story-line. The facts, and this book, prove otherwise.

Two thumbs up.
