As the Patriots head to South Beach this weekend, expect them to keep it simple. When it comes to defeating the 2018 Miami Dolphins, they already have the recipe — now they just need to go cook the dinner.
(1.) Ground and pound. 74 carries for 374 yards over the past two weeks for New England Patriots not named Tom Brady. That’s 5.05 yards per rush. It might not be as fun to watch, but possessing the football and keeping Cameron Wake from making an impact on this game will prove fruitful in its outcome.
(2.) Make Ryan Tannehill beat you from the pocket. The numbers say it’s pretty unlikely that he will.
The Dolphins offense is 29th in NFL in plays per drive, 25th in points per game, 24th in expected points added on the ground, and 26th in expected points added through the air. Simply put: they lack the juice. Corralling Tannehill and forcing him to beat you from the pocket all but guarantees a Patriots victory on Sunday.
