After signing veteran running back Jeremy Hill on Friday night, the details of the contract became public on Sunday evening. The Boston Globe’s Ben Volin reports that Hill’s one-year deal is worth a maximum of $1.5 million in 2018.
Patriots RB Jeremy Hill got a 1-year, $1.5m deal with $150k guaranteed (his signing bonus). Has a $1m base salary, a $50k workout bonus and $300k in per-game roster bonuses ($18,750) per game active. Will have a salary cap number of $1.33m

The breakdown:
2018
Salary: $1,000,000
Signing bonus proration: $150,000
Per-game roster bonuses: $131,250 ($31,250 per game - 10 games considered “likely to be earned”)
Workout bonus: $50,000
2018 Cap Figure: $1,281,250
The deal gives Hill a bit of cash up front, but is the definition of a one year “prove it” contract. He is the fifth running back signed to the roster in 2018, and he will presumably be battling for the power back role in camp with Mike Gillislee and perhaps a rookie or two. Cutting bait with Hill will only create $200,000 in dead money for the Patriots 2018.
Currently, the Patriots’ cap space sits just under $12.3 million, after Hill’s deal took the place of a player $630,000 player in the top-51.
