One of the biggest storylines of the New England Patriots' offseason thus far was the future of tight end Rob Gronkowski. Ever since the Super Bowl, after which he was non-committal whether or not he would return, there was speculation that the best tight end in the NFL would decide to hang up his cleats at just 28 years old.
Well, it seems that the speculation is now officially over as Gronkowski took to Instagram to announce his return:
I met with coach today and informed him I will be back for the 2018 season with the Pats. I have been working out, staying in shape and feel great. Looking forward to another championship run #bandsamakeherdance
While the expectation always was that Gronkowski would ultimately return this year, his post puts all rumors to rest. While it remains to be seen whether or not the Patriots have given him a contract sweetener to convince him to stay, one thing is sure: New England's best offensive skill position player returns for 2018.
