The New England Patriots have eight picks heading into the 2018 NFL Draft. If we know Bill Belichick (and we most certainly do not) the Patriots will be trading up and down the board to fill in the gap between the 95th pick and the 198th pick and to take advantage of whatever prospects fall in the first round due to the run at the quarterback position.
So when we provide the projected times for the Patriots draft picks, take it with a grain of salt and start tuning in well before the expected time.
Day 1: Round 1
When: Thursday April 26th at 8 p.m. ET
Time per pick: 10 minutes
TV channels: ESPN, FOX, & NFL Network
Patriots selections: 23rd and 31st
The 23rd overall pick will be made at 11:50 PM ET at the latest and if the projected end of the first round is at 11:30 PM ET (per ESPN’s schedule), then the Patriots will likely pick around 10:30 PM ET.
The 31st overall pick will be made at 1:10 AM ET at the latest, but will likely happen around 11:20 PM ET.
Day 2: Rounds 2 & 3
When: Friday April 27th at 7 p.m. ET
Time per pick: 7 minutes for round 2; 5 minutes for round 3
TV channels: ESPN 2, FOX, & NFL Network
Patriots selections: 43rd, 63rd, and 95th
The 43rd overall pick will be made at 8:17 PM ET at the latest and if the projected end of the first round is at 11:30 PM ET (per ESPN2’s schedule), then the Patriots will likely pick around 7:50 PM ET.
The 63rd overall pick will be made at 10:37 PM ET at the latest, but will likely happen around 9:25 PM ET.
The 95th overall pick will be made at 1:19 AM ET at the latest, but will likely happen around 11:10 PM ET.
Day 3: Rounds 4 through 7
When: Saturday April 28th at 12 p.m. ET
Time per pick: 5 minutes for rounds 4-6; 4 minutes for round 7
TV channels: ESPN, ABC, & NFL Network
Patriots selections: 198th, 210th, and 219th
ESPN has seven hours slated for day three of the NFL Draft on their schedule. Do you really want to know when the Patriots draft picks will be on Saturday? Like, seriously? I’m not judging you, but, y’all know the Patriots aren’t going to pick at their original positions, right?
The last time that Bill Belichick made a pick with an original day three selection that was not a compensatory pick was Shaq Mason (131st overall in the 2015 NFL Draft).
Since the NFL switched to a three-day draft in 2010, the Patriots have made just six picks in their original position on day three: TE Lee Smith (159th overall in 2011); LB Steve Beauharnais (235th overall in 2013); RB James White (130th overall in 2014); DB Jemea Thomas (206th overall in 2014); WR Jeremy Gallon (244th overall in 2014); and Mason.
Sure, there’s a chance the Patriots will sit tight with one of these positions, but those are terrible odds. The schedule projects the average pick on day three will take 2 minutes and 41 seconds, which is half the time allotted. Making a projection on this day is futile.
For example, the 198th overall pick will be made at 8:10 PM ET at the latest, which is already 70 minutes beyond the expected time for the draft with 58 more selections to go. It will more likely take place around 4:20 PM ET.
The 210th overall pick will likely take place around 4:55 PM ET.
The 219th overall pick will likely take place around 5:15 PM ET.
Please don’t wait around for these specific picks. Please, please, please. We will let you know when they happen on Twitter and on our site, but all the odds say the Patriots won’t be picking at these times.
