The New England Patriots survived yesterday’s first full-pads practice of training camp rather healthily as only two players had to leave the session with what appeared to be injuries: defensive edge Trey Flowers suffered an apparent forehead/eye injury, while rookie cornerback Keion Crossen gingerly walked off the field early on during the session.
While Flowers is back in action today, Crossen is not – but according to NESN’d Doug Kyed, this should change soon:
I’m told Patriots rookie CB Keion Crossen suffered a minor setback but should be back on the practice field soon.
The seventh-round draft pick out of Western Carolina was one of the surprises during organized team activities earlier this offseason but suffered an undisclosed injury at one point during workouts. He was a limited participant during mandatory minicamp, but returned to working fully once training camp opened. Now, Crossen appeared to have been bitten by the injury bug again.
Getting back to the field quickly is imperative for the 22-year old. After all, the team has plenty of bodies at the cornerback position and every missed practice is a missed opportunity to prove his value to the team.
[UPDATE, 07/29, 10:20 a.m. ET] According to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, Crossen is dealing with back spasms.
