The New England Patriots held their second full-pads practice session today and a total of five players were either not present or appeared to suffer an injury: Malcolm Mitchell, Mike Gillislee, and Keion Crossen were not spotted all day long, while Chris Hogan was shaken up at one point and fellow wide receiver Jordan Matthews exited the session after hurting his hamstring.
We know that Hogan will be fine moving forward, and that Mitchell has recently undergone a procedure on his knee. We also know that Crossen is dealing with back spasms but is expected back soon. Now, the Boston Globe’s Jim McBride and the Boston Herald’s Kevin Duffy have more information on the other two players:
According to a league source, #Patriots WR Jordan Matthews is expected to miss just a few days after he tweaked his right hamstring early in Sunday’s practice.
Patriots RB Mike Gillislee missed practice today, but is “fine,” a source said. Could be back for Monday’s practice.
Both Matthews and Gillislee are fighting for spots on a crowded Patriots offense and have mostly been solid through the first three days worth of action. Them missing time, however, does not help their chances – returning to the field soon is imperative for both. Judging by McBride’s and Duffy’s reports, this should be expected which is good news for both the players and the overall competition at their respective positions.
