The New England Patriots suffered a multitude of injuries in 2017, and one of the biggest was wide receiver Julian Edelman’s season-ending knee. The veteran tore his ACL during his team’s third preseason game and was subsequently forced to spend the entire campaign on the sidelines. Now, Edelman is back on the practice fields – looking as good as ever – but will have to wait until week five to make his return.
The 32-year old is suspended for the first four games of the season after violating the NFL’s policy on performance enhancing drugs. Yesterday, Edelman posted a statement on his Instagram account apologizing for... well, he does not actually mention what he is apologizing for, but the natural belief is that him missing the first quarter of the regular season has something to do with it.
It’s been one heck of a few months and a crazy year. My deepest apologies to my family, friends, peers, coaches and fans. What I can say, and what I am most thankful for, is the overwhelming support I have received from everyone. The love and support has truly helped me through what has been a challenging time. Whether it’s a person walking down Newbury street, or someone next to me filling up their gas tank saying they have my back. I can’t thank Pat’s Nation enough. It inspires me to go out and work that much harder for you guys. Remember, tough times don’t last, tough people do.
The post comes the day after Edelman spoke to reporters about his mindset at the moment, and after his four-game suspension was upheld on appeal. “Obviously you’re disappointed with it,” the veteran said (via NBC Boston), “but I gotta follow the protocols a little better and make sure this never happens again. I’m accountable for my actions. Ultimately my focus now is getting my knee right and going out and playing football at a high level.”
