Tight end Martellus Bennett was a crucial part of the New England Patriots winning Super Bowl LI against the Atlanta Falcons and he made a brief return to the team in 2017 after a disastrous stint with the Green Bay Packers.
But those experiences mean that he can compare the consensus two best quarterbacks in the NFL in a way that very few players can- and he has an opinion on Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers.
“I think that no one has more arm talent than Aaron,” Bennett said on Fox Sports Radio, as transcribed by Pro Football Talk. “Aaron can pretty much do anything with the ball. I feel like Tom Brady is precise, easier to play with. It was easier to play with Tom than anybody else.”
That’s great praise for Brady and a big reason why players want to come to New England and why the franchise has been such a machine over the past two decades.
Where else does Brady stand out for Bennett?
“He makes the game easy, what he expects, where he wants you to be, where he’s putting the ball, he does so many repetitions with you, mental reps, physical reps, walk-through, he’s always letting you know,” Bennett said of Brady. “He communicates the best of what he expects. The communication between him and the receiver is on the highest level: What you like to do, what he likes to throw, if you ask him to do something he’ll try it.”
That’s what great teammates do and how Brady is able to always elevate the level of play from his less-heralded receivers.
Aaron Rodgers can do more with the football than any other quarterback in the league- but Brady’s able to get the job done at the highest level with any combination of receivers he’s given.
