Last Thursday, the New England Patriots played their first game of the 2018 season. While a lot of the team’s star players were given the day off and the battles for roster spots took center stage instead, it was still a relatively entertaining affair for a preseason opener: after all, the Patriots were able to rally back from a 17-point second quarter deficit to defeat the visiting Washington Redskins 26-17.
One of the biggest roles in the comeback victory was played by running back Ralph Webb. The undrafted rookie, who saw most of his snaps in the third and fourth periods, finished the game with 14 carries for 46 yards and two touchdowns. The Vanderbilt product also added a pair of two-point conversions. After his productive first-ever NFL contest, Webb was approached by Patriots owner Robert Kraft after the game.
As can be seen in the Patriots’ recently released sights and sounds clip from the game, Kraft pulled Webb back to congratulate him to his performance: “That was good,” he told him. Later this week, when New England hosts the Philadelphia Eagles, we will see whether or not Webb will be able to build on this game. And despite playing primarily against second and third stringers, his impression was a positive one.
