The New England Patriots were back on the practice fields again today for their 14th overall session of this year’s training camp. The practice featured a few injury scares, but hopefully everyone will be healthy and ready to return to the field.
Let’s recap what happened:
Attendance
WR Matthew Slater, RB Sony Michel, RB Rex Burkhead, OT Marcus Cannon, and LB Harvey Langi were absent. (source) These are the same five that were absent yesterday.
WR Kenny Britt, DE Trey Flowers, CB Duke Dawson, and CB Ryan Lewis were all limited participants. (source)
RB Jeremy Hill was present, but limited and held out of 11 on 11 drills, after suffering an apparently minor injury yesterday. (source) Hill still participated in kickoff drills. (source)
Whatever injury that affected WR Julian Edelman on Monday did not appear to affect him on Tuesday. (source)
Injuries
Rookie DE Trent Harris left the field with the training staff. (source)
TE Dwayne Allen pulled up while running routes and had to spend time with the trainers. (source)
WR Phillip Dorsett slipped and fell on a crossing route and left practice. (source) The injury is not expected to be serious and Dorsett is expected to return to practice tomorrow. (source)
LB Marquis Flowers apparently left early, too. (source)
Offense
The quarterbacks performed as follows during 11-on-11 work: (source)
Tom Brady: 16/26
Brian Hoyer: 16/25
Drops: Phillip Dorsett, Julian Edelman, Chris Hogan, Devin Lucien. (source)
WR Riley McCarron moved up to the first team offense when Dorsett was injured. (source)
OT Matt Tobin was the top back-up at left tackle when Trent Brown had to take a lap, while OT Isaiah Wynn is the top right tackle versus LaAdrian Waddle. (source)
TE Jacob Hollister spent additional time with Brady after practice. (source)
Brady took reps with the scout team for the second-straight day. (source)
Defense
CB Stephon Gilmore “had another strong day” with two pass break-ups. (source)
CBs Keion Crossen, Jonathan Jones, and Cyrus Jones had opportunities as the top slot defender with Gilmore and Eric Rowe on the outside. (source)
Rowe took back the top spot opposite of Gilmore after Jason McCourty played with the first unit on Monday. It’s like the two will be rotating and are even footing. (source)
Jonathan Jones had a break-up in coverage of Eric Decker. (source)
CB Jason McCourty had a good pass break-up in the end zone while covering TE Rob Gronkowski. (source)
LB Ja’Whaun Bentley broke up passes intended for TE Jacob Hollister (source) and TE Rob Gronkowski (source). Bentley is playing with the first team defense. (source)
DE Keionta Davis also saw time with the first team defense. (source)
Special Teams
Cyrus Jones worked on punt returns, while Riley McCarron practiced kick returns. (source)
