While the New England Patriots played a very strong second preseason game against the Philadelphia Eagles yesterday, the team also saw one of its first-round draft picks go down with an injury: late in the second quarter, offensive lineman Isaiah Wynn limped off the field after apparently injuring his ankle.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the rookie’s injury is a serious one:
Patriots’ first-round pick, OT Isaiah Wynn, tore his Achilles vs. the Eagles and he will be out for the season, per source. The worst of the preseason on display.
Wynn tearing his Achilles is a confirmation of what was feared yesterday after the 23rd overall selection of this year’s draft limped off the field and was carted to the locker room. The injury is obviously a big blow to the player and the team: the 21-year old was seeing more snaps as a right tackle as of late and was a candidate to serve as the top backup offensive lineman this season.
