As part of SBNation’s theme week, we take a look back at one of the most significant trades in Patriots history.

SB Nation’s NFL websites are doing a theme week with the prompt, “Where were you when...?” with an event happening after 1990. In this edition I want to look back at the Patriots acquiring the best wide receiver in NFL history, Randy Moss.

April 29th, 2007. At 11 years old, I was in my room watching the NFL draft while my family prepared the apartment we lived in for my younger sister’s fourth birthday party. In the apartment, the only way to get into my room was through my sister’s, who was down for a nap before her big day.

We had all heard the rumors that the Patriots were in on Randy Moss, and that it was likely between them and the Packers. Sitting on my bed, watching ESPN break down prospects I had never heard of, the breaking news ticker flashed. The Patriots had acquired Randy Moss. Before even seeing what the Raiders got back, I had jumped up. I tip-toed through my sisters room so as to not wake her, then sprinted into the living room, exclaiming “We got Moss!!!!” to my Dad.

We celebrated the trade more than my sister’s birthday (sorry Amber, love you). We then got to celebrate Moss dominating one of the best cornerbacks in NFL history. Then we got to celebrate the best wide receiver season ever. Though it didn’t end the way everyone hoped, Randy Moss became one of the best players to ever put on a Patriots uniform by the end of the 2007 season.
